This pattern is known as Goudkust, which is Dutch for "Gold Coast." The transfer pattern is intricate, include a border, heart motifs, and Greek Key-like elements. The condition of this item is excellent with little to no crazing, discoloration or other defects. The size and condition of this particular bowl makes it a rare find. This Lusterware is a type of pottery or porcelain with a metallic glaze that gives the effect of iridescence, produced by metallic oxides in an overglaze finish, which is given a second firing at a lower temperature in a "muffle kiln", reduction kiln, which excludes oxygen.
The entrepreneurs Winand Nicolaas Clermont and Charles Chainaye in 1851 founded a pottery in the Maastricht neighbourhood Wijck. Their company was taken over in 1859 by the Belgian engineer Guillaume Lambert and transformed into a limited partnership.
